The World Day of the Sick Mass is an extraordinary opportunity to bring the blessings of Our Lady of Lourdes to our communities. Sunday, February 9, is World Marriage Day. During our Sunday Masses all couples who have been married in the Catholic Church will be invited to renew before God their sacred matrimonial commitment to each other and receive a blessing. No registration is required. Reserved seating will be available for jubilee couples celebrating their 10yr, 15yr, 20yr, 25yr, or greater anniversaries.
The 23rd Annual Archdiocesan Mass celebrating Black History Month will be held at the Cathedral at 5:00 PM on February 15, 2025. Themed “Walk together children,” the Mass will acknowledge and celebrate Black Culture, including all African Diaspora members born in the United States and newcomers to this country. The Mass is sponsored by the African American Catholic Center for Evangelization.
In observance of President’s Day, Cathedral will offer one Mass at 12:10 PM. Parking for Mass attendees will be validated for 90 minutes. The Cathedral will be open to visitors. The Parish Offices and the Gift Shop will be closed.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption. There will be five services on Ash Wednesday with the distribution of Ashes starting at 7:00 AM with the last service in Spanish at 7:00 PM. Click for details
LA Opera along with the Los Angeles Community will come together under the baton of Music Director James Conlon for two free performances of Carla Lucero's Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at the Cathedral. Sung in Spanish with projected English translation, Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén is a motivational and inspirational story based on the Passion narrative of the Eighth Station of the Cross, depicting the women who weep for Jesus as He is forced toward the crucifixion. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. On this day, we celebrate the triumphant entry of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, into Jerusalem, riding a donkey. On that day, the people laid palms before Him, a gesture reserved for triumphant leaders. We celebrate this at Mass by distributing palms to the faithful. Masses at the Cathedral will begin on the Plaza with the Blessing of the Palms before proceeding inside. Palm Sunday Masses will be held at 7:30 AM, 10:00 AM, and 12:30 PM.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, Archbishop Gomez, joined by the bishops and priests of the archdiocese, will gather at the Cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass. The Chrism Mass is one of the most solemn and important liturgies of the Church year. During it, the Archbishop will consecrate the sacred oils used in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders. The Mass of the Lord's Supper is a Holy Week service celebrated on the evening of Maundy Thursday. It inaugurates the Easter Triduum, and commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples, more explicitly than other celebrations of the Mass. The traditional washing of the feet that takes place on Holy Thursday will renew this year with the participation of 12 faithful.
Join us for Eucharistic adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday evening from 8:30-10PM. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament flows from the sacrifice of the Mass and serves to deepen our hunger for Communion with Christ and the rest of the Church. The Rite concludes with the ordained minister blessing the faithful with the Blessed Sacrament.
On Good Friday, the Cathedral will offer three services: 12:00PM, 3:00PM, and 7:00PM in Spanish. During the solemn liturgy, the Lord’s passion from the Gospel of John will be proclaimed and a special prayer will be dedicated to the catechumens or brothers and sisters who will be baptized and welcome into the Church on Easter Vigil. As in previous years, the faithful will have an opportunity to venerate the cross. The noon service will be livestreamed. Stations of the Cross will take place at 11:00AM and Confessions will be available from 11AM-12PM.
The Easter Vigil Mass, which celebrates Christ’s Resurrection from the dead, will begin outside with the blessing of the fire at the Easter Fire Hearth on the Cathedral Plaza. The vigil consists of a brief candlelight service and a service of the Word. The Paschal Candle for the year 2025 will be lit for the first time. Dating from at least the mid-second century, this is one of the oldest Christian celebrations. The Vigil is a culmination of the entire Church year, an encapsulation of the Paschal Mystery and a rehearsal of salvation history in word and song.
The celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection will be celebrated at the Cathedral at 7:30AM, 10:00AM, and 12:30PM in Spanish. The 10:00AM Easter Sunday Mass will be livestreamed and will also be available as a live broadcast through localish channel ABC 7.2. Radio listeners can also tune in on Sirius XM 129, the Catholic Channel.
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Filipino Catholic community of Los Angeles will gather at the Cathedral for the traditional Santacruzan Marian celebration. The pre-procession begins at 2:30PM and is followed by Santacruzan Mass at 3:00PM
In observance of Memorial Day, the Cathedral will celebrate one Mass at 12:10pm. A 90-minute parking validation will be provided to Mass attendees. The Cathedral campus will be open to visitors, however, the Parish Offices, Gift Shop and Galero Grill will be closed on this day. Regular parking rates apply.
Archbishop José Gomez will celebrate Mass for the Feast of St. Josemaría Escrivá at the Cathedral on Saturday June 21 at 10:00 AM. Pope St. John Paul II called St. Josemaría, “the saint of ordinary life.” His feast day, therefore, is an opportunity to seek his intercession before God for all the needs and intentions that concern us in our daily lives: challenges of the family, marriage, work, unemployment, sickness, society and culture.
In observance of the July 4th holiday, Mass will be held at 9:00am. There will be no 7am or 12:10pm Mass on this day. The Parish office, Gift Shop and Galero Grill will be closed. Join us Saturday, September 6 as Catholics from our great city come together for a Rosary and Mass in honor of Our Lady of the Angels. In 1781, the city of Los Angeles was founded under the patronage of Our Lady of the Angels. She remains the Mother of the diverse family of God in Los Angeles. Rosary is at 10:30am followed by Mass at 11:00am.
The Virgen de los Remedios Mass will be held at the Cathedral at 3:30 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Parish organizations and Marian movements are invited to join in the pre-procession which begins at 3:00PM from the Cathedral Plaza. Devotees may bring floral bouquets to be presented to our Lady after Mass. The celebration commemorates the 69th Virgen de los Remedios Canonical Coronation Anniversary. (click for more)
St. John’s Seminary annual gala honoring distinguished alums and Catholic Leaders will take place at the Cathedral on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The gala helps raise funds to help further St. John’s mission to prepare good holy men for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and our neighboring dioceses. Tickets are required. This annual Mass unites Catholic faithful from our tri-county Archdiocese of Los Angeles (Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara) and the Dioceses of Orange, San Bernardino, and San Diego, in prayer and celebration of the immigrant spirit of the United States.
