Join us in celebrating Cesar's Legacy during the Spanish Mass at the Cathedral at 12:30PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez, this Mass honors the legacy of the civil rights and farm labor leader who would have celebrated his 98th birthday on March 31. This year also marks the 57th anniversary of his first fast to rededicate the farm workers movement to nonviolence.
Fifteen farmworkers, members of the Union of Farm Workers (UFW) that Chavez founded in 1962, will participate in the procession down Cathedral’s center aisle before the Mass. Manuel Bernal, president and CEO of the Cesar Chavez Foundation, will speak after communion.
The annual Mass celebrates Chavez’s commitment to the struggle for justice and dignity for all workers. Cesar Chavez, a lifelong Catholic and the son of a family of extremely poor farmworkers, founded the UFW to advocate on behalf of the farmworkers in the United States.
