Santo Niño Cruzada USA is inviting all devotees of Santo Niño to participate in the upcoming 38th year anniversary Mass celebration of the Feast of Santo Nino, the Divine Infant Jesus, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 3:30 PM.
The celebration will include Sinulog performances at 2:00pm on the Plaza and followed by a pre-liturgy procession at 3:00pm with the participation of different religious organizations and ministries.
The Mass will be co-celebrated by Most Reverend Matthew G. Elshoff, Auxiliary Bishop for Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region and Most Reverend Slawomir Szkreda, Auxiliary Bishop for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region. Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik, the former pastor of the Cathedral will give the Homily.
The Catholic icon, the Santo Niño, is known for his miracles and people’s devotions that transcend religions. The image of Santo Niño is particularly revered by people from Cebu, a devotion that overgrew beyond that region over centuries, including the United States. Pope Francis said that the Holy Child has been the Protector of the Philippines for half a millennium thus his significance both in the country and culture. Faithful are encouraged to bring their statues of Santo Niño for a blessing during the Mass.
In the 16th century, the first statue of Santo Niño was presented to Queen Juana, wife of King Humabon of Cebu. She was overjoyed upon seeing the innocent and kind face of Baby Jesus. She was baptized and embraced Catholicism. Ferdinand Magellan planted the Cross of Christianity on the day that baptisms occurred in Cebu. To this day, Filipinos bring prayers to the Santo Niño, as their protector who has the power to grant and answer their prayers. Devotions to him are part of every parish’s life.
Parking: $12 flat-rate
